DAY ONE (#2536 and #0876)

Welcome to my first blog post on my brand new blog, Sketches of a Mustang! This blog is dedicated to raising awareness of the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Mustangs, especially the ones in the internet adoption/auction. My goals for this blog are as follows: 1.) Post a picture of 1-2 sketches as many days as possible, whether
that ends up being in once a day or once a week. 2.) Raise awareness of the many BLM Mustangs on the internet adoption that need homes. 3.) Potentially help some of them to be bid on? (Hopefully!) 4.) Improve my own drawing skills and learn how to draw horses as I am not very good.

Today I sketched tag #2536, a two year old light palomino gelding from Adobe Town HMA (WY), and tag #0876, a nine year old gray mare that was born in holding at the Rock Springs Preparation Facility. Below are photos from the Internet Adoption, and my reasons for sketching them on this blog.

This is tag #2536. I chose to sketch him because I have seen him on the internet adoption at least twice, which is probably why he is now eligible for sale. This is unfortunate, as a horse that is eligible for sale immediately becomes the lawful property of the new owner, instead of still being BLM property for a year. This means that the new owner can immediately sell the horse, and the horse is more likely to end up at a sale barn or auction. If you are looking for a cute, get-up-and-go little horse that is still quite young, this little gelding is the one for you! From his video he seems like quite a fun li'l guy.

This is tag #0876. I chose to draw her because she was born in holding... and she is nine years old! That means she has been in a dirt pen for NINE YEARS. She probably doesn't even know what grass feels like! She is also eligible for sale. She is one of three nine year old mares who have all been born in holding and are all eligible for sale. I definitely plan on sketching the other two soon. She has the sweetest eye and a very expressive face. From her video she seems relatively calm and not too afraid of the photographer or the person standing on the other end of the round pen, even though it is windy! What a sweet girl, I hope she is adopted soon!
